Coves reachable only on foot or by boat
At the southern end of the Cilento coast, Marina di Camerota is a former fishing village that has become one of the most popular seaside resorts in Campania, while keeping a wild coastline among the most beautiful in southern Italy. The headlands around it are part of the Costa degli Infreschi marine protected area.
Its fame comes from the coves that open along the coast, many of them reachable only by boat or along footpaths through the Mediterranean scrub: Cala Bianca, voted several times as one of the most beautiful beaches in Italy, with white pebbles and turquoise water; the Porto degli Infreschi, a natural harbour with freshwater springs flowing into the sea, which gives it its name; Cala del Cefalo, Pozzallo and Lentiscelle. Along the coast are also caves inhabited in prehistory, such as the Grotta della Cala. The village above, Camerota, has a castle and is known for its craft of making "pignatte", terracotta pots.
Tip: the coastal path from Marina di Camerota to the Infreschi and on to Scario is a splendid full-day hike; boats leave from the port every morning in summer.
