The city of the two seas
Catanzaro, the capital of Calabria, stands on a rocky spur between the Ionian and the Tyrrhenian seas, at the narrowest point of the Italian peninsula, where only about thirty kilometres separate the two coasts.
What to see
The historic centre is crossed by Corso Mazzini, with the cathedral, the church of San Domenico and the Basilica dell'Immacolata. The Ponte Bisantis, a single-arch concrete bridge, was one of the longest of its kind when it was built in the 1960s. The Park of Biodiversity and the MARCA modern art museum are worth a visit, and the seaside district of Catanzaro Lido offers long beaches.
Food
Morzello, a spicy tripe stew eaten in pitta bread, 'nduja, caciocavallo and Cirò wine from the Ionian coast.
Around Catanzaro
