Things to see in Trani
The cathedral on the sea
Trani, the third capital of the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani, is one of the most beautiful towns on the Adriatic: a harbour of fishing boats and white stone palaces, with a Romanesque cathedral standing right at the water's edge.
What to see
The cathedral of San Nicola Pellegrino, in pale local stone with a tall bell tower on an arch, is the "queen of Apulian Romanesque cathedrals", and its isolated position by the sea is unforgettable. Beside it stands the Swabian castle of Frederick II, also on the water. The old Jewish quarter, one of the most important in medieval southern Italy, keeps the synagogue of Scolanova. Walk around the harbour and the Villa Comunale gardens at sunset.
Food
Raw seafood and fresh fish in the harbour, orecchiette, burrata and the sweet Moscato di Trani wine.
