Gardaland

Italy's most famous amusement park

Opened in 1975 on the south-eastern shore of Lake Garda, at Castelnuovo del Garda near Peschiera, Gardaland is the largest and best-known amusement park in Italy, and one of the most visited in Europe, with millions of visitors a year. Its mascot, the green dragon Prezzemolo, is known to generations of Italian children.

The park offers dozens of attractions for all ages, spread over themed areas: thrilling roller coasters such as Raptor, a "wing coaster" with seats suspended on the sides of the track; Oblivion, with a 90-degree vertical drop into a dark tunnel; Shaman, the first VR coaster in Italy; and Blue Tornado; water rides such as Colorado Boat and Jungle Rapids; family attractions such as the Valley of the Kings, Fantasy Kingdom and the Legoland Water Park and Peppa Pig Land for younger children; and live shows. Next to the park are the themed hotels and the Sea Life Aquarium. At Halloween and Christmas the park opens with special decorations, shows and events.

Tip: buy tickets online to save money and use fast-track passes in high season; arrive at opening time and head straight for the most popular rides.
