The fishing village and Inspector Montalbano's house by the sea
Punta Secca is a tiny fishing hamlet of Santa Croce Camerina, on the south coast of the province of Ragusa, with a small harbour, a white lighthouse and a few houses facing the sea. It would have remained unknown if it had not become, in the TV series Inspector Montalbano, the fictional village of Marinella, where the commissioner lives.
Montalbano's house, with its terrace on the beach where he eats and swims in the morning, is now a bed and breakfast, and fans from all over the world come to photograph it. The little square in front, the lighthouse and the long sandy beaches nearby, such as Caucana with its archaeological park of a late Roman village, complete the visit.
Tip: come out of season or at sunset, when the village is quiet; in the evening the fish restaurants on the square serve the dishes beloved by the commissioner, such as arancini and pasta 'ncasciata.
