The beaches of Elba

Fetovaia, Cavoli and Sant'Andrea, between granite and clear water

Elba has more than 140 beaches, and the most beautiful are on the south west coast, in the municipality of Campo nell'Elba and around Monte Capanne. Fetovaia is a small bay of golden sand protected by a granite headland, with water of tropical colours. Cavoli is famous for its fine sand and lively atmosphere, while Seccheto has smooth granite slabs where you can sunbathe.

In the north west, Sant'Andrea has curious rounded granite rocks and a seabed rich in fish, ideal for snorkelling. On the east side, the beaches of Capoliveri, such as Innamorata and Barabarca, and the black sand beaches of Rio Marina reflect the island's mining past.

Tip: take the cable car up Monte Capanne, 1,019 metres, from Marciana: on clear days you can see Corsica and the whole archipelago. The roads are winding; a scooter is the easiest way to move between beaches.
